Making Strides for Breast Cancer 2016

November 28, 2016

A word from Dave:

Before I started working with Serena, I worked a lot of different jobs. I was probably your pizza delivery boy at some point but most recently; I worked at RK Chevrolet in Vineland, New Jersey. The training I got from both RK Auto Group and from Chevrolet taught me not only sales, but also how to think forward and plan for anything. Most of all, they treated me as family.

I started at RK the week before the “Making Strides For Breast Cancer 2014” Walk in Ocean City, New Jersey. I always wanted to volunteer, so when I learned about the event, I knew I wanted to go. In that first week, I got to meet Jim Gee, the general manager of the dealership. Jim’s wife, Sandy lost her battle with breast cancer in 2013. I never got the chance to meet her.

What I do know is that she has inspired so many people and left behind a incredible drive to keep fighting. Every year, the family, friends and employees of RK Chevy and sister companies come together to raise money for breast cancer research. This year, Team Sandy raised over $40,000 bringing it to a five-year total of over $190,000.

Serena and I were so humbled and excited to have been asked to cover the event this year and since we were already going to be there, it was as simple as bringing the gear along. We have a friend, Blonnie Brooks, who is also fighting stage-four breast cancer right now. Blonnie was our wedding photographer and is just an amazing person in general. You can help support Blonnie’s fight at http://wearegoingsomewhere.com/help-us-fight-blonnies-breastcancer/.

This year’s walk was a great success with over 200 registered participants. If you want to walk in October 2017, join Team Sandy through the Making Strides website and walk with us!
