What is Boudoir?

Traditionally the definition is a woman's private sitting room or salon in a furnished accommodation usually between the dining room and the bedroom, but can also refer to a woman's private bedroom (wikipedia).

Today, “Boudoir photography” is classy intimate imagery that can empower women and has the ability to build self esteem and build a body positive image. They also make nice gifts for a significant other.

Why do a session

I believe every woman is beautiful and should have the opportunity to see it, know it, and embrace it. Boudoir is an experience that can change your life and perspective about yourself. It did for me! It promotes a body positive atmosphere where you can see yourself done up like centerfold or supermodel and breaks down those negative walls you create about your self-image.

For your significant other

These sexy images are popular gifts for women to give to their husbands on their wedding day. They have also become popular as gifts to a significant other for holidays such as valentines day, christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. "Cheesecake" or "Pinup" images, also categorized under boudoir, is also a popular gift to your special soldier overseas since they are sexy without being too over the top.

The experience

Sending that first email is the hardest part of the whole experience. Once you book, the fun starts. You get to shop for new lingerie, plan on pinterest and get excited. Arriving for your shoot on the day of, it's normal to feel nervous. Most women come in with sweaty, clammy hands and butterflies in their stomach. As soon as you sit down in the makeup chair, all those nerves start to calm. Once the reveal of your makeup is done, the transformation has begun! Those butterflies typically pop up again once you first start shooting, but by the end of the session, I promise you will feel like a pro!

After the photoshoot

Within a week we'll meet again at the studio and I will help guide you through choosing your favorite photos. Once we have those, we'll figure out which of the unique products that I offer are right for you! I'll complete final edits on your photographs for print, design your product and send it to you for proof. Once the design is approved, I'll order your product and get it in your hands. You'll probably be too excited to wait to give it to your significant other on the date you had planned, but there is nothing like seeing their expression as they open your photos. I know, I've photographed reveals at weddings!

"I am Beautiful"

I am a woman. I am a Photographer, a Model, a Makeup Artist, a writer, an artist. I am not perfect. I have flaws and I am a flawed person, but I am just like every other girl - I am beautiful.

I am not perfect. I have scars - physically, mentally, and emotionally. I have stretch marks. My skin breaks out. I have birth marks, and I'm starting to see lines where I would rather them not be. My hair is frizzy - I can't get a haircut I like to save my life. I have dark brown eyes although I wish they were light. I have dark circles because I don't sleep well.

But I am beautiful.

I got picked on for being too curvy. Now I get picked on for being too thin. I wish my bra size was just one cup larger. I sometimes ponder why I wasn't just a tad bit taller and my torso just a bit longer. I've battled anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder on a daily basis and I've put my loved ones through a lot of stress. I laugh a lot, I cry a lot. I'm the one who's tearing through tissues at the movies. I am awkward in conversation. I laugh really loud. Sometimes I'm too shy and sometimes the wrong thing just seems to always come pouring out of my mouth. A lot of the time I just read into everything too much.

But I am who I am. I am Beautiful.

I was not the popular girl in high school. I didn't have much money, I wore a lot of hand-me-downs. I was called mean nicknames. I was often sick when I was younger. I never had a date to a dance. I've been bullied in every form from nasty comments as simple as your nose is too large, your face is too wide, your makeup is too blue - you look like a raccoon - you look like a hooker - to having my diaries stolen and pages posted on the walls of my school, my artwork torn into little pieces, and food chucked at me.

I've been Rejected, I've been heartbroken. I've been raped. I've had degrading experiences in my young adulthood.

But I am a sexy, wonderful person. I am Beautiful.

I see beauty in every woman that I meet. As a teenager I thought it was a curse - that every girl that walked into a room was more beautiful than me and that I didn't have a chance with the boy I was talking to. It took me many years to realize that the girl in the room across the way felt the same way about me.

I have days just like anyone else where I look in the mirror and hate what I see. I'm overly self- critical. I beat myself up and tear myself down. I sit in my PJs all day and wonder why I even bother.

But then I remember that I am beautiful. I have a beauty that shines from the soul. So I get off my ass and tell myself out loud that I am gorgeous. I am a wonderful, sexy, confident person. I have an amazing life with the best man in the world, a beautiful home, a growing business, and six amazing kids (furbabies) who love me unconditionally

I put on that sexy little dress, do my hair and makeup and step out into the world with a new found confidence. I wash away that worry and doubt because I know that I am surrounded by beauty everyday and that I am a part it.

Our perception of our own self-value and self-worth is skewed. Our vision of ourselves is distorted. My story is not unlike countless other women who are too afraid to speak out loud. My dream is to build that esteem in every woman - we are all beautiful. Every single one of us - no matter how old or how young. How thin or how curvy - our past, our present. No matter how hard or how easy our lives are.

I was the model non-model. I am too short for Fashion, too short for commercial, too thin and pale for Glamour. But none of that matters. I know what beautiful is and how to use it. I know how to take beautiful photographs which is why I do what I do. Which is why I became a Glamour Photographer and my job - my passion, my career is sharing your beauty with you.

In high school I took theater and began doing costuming, makeup, and set design. I found photography and starting doing self portraits as a way to create art and found it also built my self esteem. Next thing I knew, I was being asked to model! I never in a million years thought I was pretty enough to be a model. I did it for many years before I had a terrible experience with a photographer and vowed I would never let a woman feel badly about themselves like I had felt again. To the left you can read my story. It's a poem I wrote years ago, but had to find the power within myself to share with you all today. I have found women have an extremely distorted view on their own bodies, their value and self worth.

What's your comfort zone?

I see the beauty in every woman that walks in my door

Whether it's "I’m not 25 and stick thin”, “I just had a baby and have stretch marks”, or the dreaded "I'm just not photogenic." I work with women of all ages, shapes, and colors whether that means they are 18 or 80. There are lots of options for de-emphasizing things you wish not to be seen. There are different poses we can do. If for example you have stretch marks from a baby, we could use high waist girdles to cover the tummy area, or if you want to show off that stomach, I can use Photoshop magic to make them disappear. As for not being photogenic, you just haven't worked with a professional yet! A common misconception I hear is that I only photograph models. I’m here to tell you that ANYONE can be absolutely beautiful, confident and sexy. You ARE just as gorgeous as anyone I have posted on my site and you WILL look amazing in your photos.

This goes hand in hand with the last question and is an excuse keeping you from recognizing just how awesome you are now! Between posing, lighting, etc I promise you that in your photographs you won't look any different now as you will 10 lbs from now. Besides, you can and should always treat yourself to another photo shoot to document your progress if you are trying to lose a significant amount of weight. Love yourself just the way you are today or it will always be another 10 lbs you want to lose.

Unlike most studios, I don't kick you out after a 30 min/ hr session where you haven't even started feeling comfortable yet. I want to be able to take our time so you can feel relaxed whether it takes only an hour or three. Unlike most studios, I’m not a cattle call to get in as many clients as I can and won’t rush you out the door! I encourage you to take the day off on the day of your shoot so you can be relaxed and allow yourself to be pampered without the laundry list running. That being said, it typically takes about an hour per makeup look and 30 minutes per look of shooting time.

Your privacy is very important to us. I keep your images 100% private if that is what you desire. I offer a privacy release, and I always get permission from my clients before posting their images or showing them anywhere. Often times, the images are so classy, most of my clients post at least a beauty shot on a social networking website! (and many of my clients have gone on to model for fun or asked me to submit for publication). I also offer in studio proofing sessions to keep your images safe.

Retouching is absolutely included! I retouch you like they do in fashion magazines. I don't outsource or run a ton of automatic programs that make your skin look like plastic. I hand retouch every image to keep you looking real, but still have that airbrush quality. As some women can get offended when you soften too many wrinkles or remove too much weight, I try to keep it to a minimum. Please ask if there are specific things you would like retouched, for example, I like to leave in beauty marks as they are a part of you!

Our sessions take place at our studio in Pittsgrove, NJ, but we can also do in-home boudoir sessions and bed & breakfast / hotel sessions if you would prefer.

Friends that aren't being photographed can often make you feel more self conscious and nervous. If you do want someone, I recommend only bringing one friend. I do not allow significant others in studio unless they are being photographed. However, if you'd love to have a friend photographed same day, Absolutely! I offer boudoir parties for that very thing!

I worked in the fashion industry teaching new models how to pose for camera. At some point, I decided that every women should be able to experience the rush of a photoshoot. Since then I have become a specialist in posing and guiding all women to look their best. I will walk you through every step of the shoot!

As quality and sanitization (and ease of retouch) is important to me. Many "makeup artists" (as the state of NJ does not require you have a license to do makeup for photography or film) do not keep up to my standards of sanitization. The quality of makeup is a huge part of what I do. If you want that celebrity quality shoot, you need to have your makeup done like the celebrities! Hair is an optional add-on, but some ladies choose to come with their hair loosely curled
or go to their local salon.

I have a great selection of corsets, tiny tops hats, and other accessories. For lingerie, I recommend purchasing your own for sanitary reasons (you wouldn't want to share lingerie), however I do have high waisted girdles and other pieces that can be worn with a thong underneath. Everything is laundered after every wear. I do offer custom outfits that can be purchased right at our studio, one of a kind and hand created burlesque style outfits by our designer, Scarlet Fairy Designs!

I invite you back within a week to view your images in studio. It makes the process very easy as you can look at them on a projector and compare them side by side. Web galleries are not a safe way to view such private images as they can be hacked and it's been a big issue in the industry.

Most orders can be completed in 4-6 weeks, but for our Italian albums we recommend 90 days from the day you approve your album design. Although I try to surpass expectations and return your final product to you before the deadline, I need that cushion of time during my busy season or in case of any complications, such as albums or prints getting damaged in the mail.

Booking is super easy! You can even do it all online. You'll even get your own login on my site where you can view everything (payments, agreement, etc) all in one place. I require a deposit and a signed agreement to lock in your date. You will have the ability at that time to sign our privacy agreement if you wish to have your images private.

I recommend you skip drinking because you can really tell in the photos, especially in the eyes. I do not serve any type of alcoholic beverages at the studio. If this is something that you would like, I recommend that you hold a Boudoir Party at your home, or a room at a hotel or bed & breakfast. I will travel to you! It is up to you to get permission to have photos taken at your location.
