So I spent this past Saturday on water. The Cruiser Olympia at Seaport Museum in Philadelphia to be exact. For those of you that don’t know me well, Boats and I don’t really get along well (Bring on the Sea sickness,) but I had to make an exception for an old friend of mine and his fiancee. (and holy moly it was worth it!)
I met James when I was a teenager and was just getting into photography. It was hard when I first got started because there wasn’t a lot of avenues to learn about the industry and how to shoot. James was one of those people that was willing to teach.
James and Cassie’s Cruiser Olympia wedding was a unique one! We started at their home in Philadelphia for getting ready and then went to Washington Avenue Pier for the Ceremony. I’ve never experienced a Quaker ceremony where there is no officiant. The guests one by one stood up to say something about the couple, and then Cassie and James said their vows to each other. After family portraits, we headed to the Cruiser Olympia for couples portraits!
We had tons of time to shoot, running around first in the Submarine in front. It was crazy how tiny it was! I don’t know how people live in those. It was interesting getting my camera gear through it. After that we ran around the boat until it was our time to take a trip on the Sailboat!
I was super nervous. I haven’t been on a small boat since a Dolphin watch cruise when I was a kid and didn’t know how I would handle the motion sickness. Once the adrenaline started as the sun set and I started taking stunning photos, I almost forgot about how nauseous I was. (almost.) It was totally worth it though! I think they are some of my favorite photos from the day!
Enjoy!
